India Fashion Awards (IFA) Conclave Launches 60 Years of World Crafts Celebration: A Step Towards Crafts & Sustainable Fashion. 


Mumbai, India – The India Fashion Awards (IFA), a leading platform advocating for sustainable development in the Fashion and Lifestyle Sector, recently convened a captivating panel discussion on 'Crafts and Sustainability' at their annual IFA Conclave. Held on 7th and 8th March 2024 at the prestigious Saint Regis Hotel in Mumbai, the event united industry leaders, experts, and policymakers to delve into the intersection of craftsmanship and environmental stewardship within the fashion industry.


The panel, guided by Mr. Sa'ad al-Qaddumi, President of the World Crafts Council AISBL (WCC-International); Dr. Kevin Murray, Vice-President of the World Crafts Council AISBL; Ms. Girija Sudhakaran, Secretary In-Charge and Treasurer of World Crafts Council AISBL; and Dr. Darlie Koshy, Former Director NID and Advisor of World Crafts Council AISBL, garnered significant attention for its focus on promoting sustainable practices and fostering dialogue on the transformative potential of crafts in addressing global challenges such as climate change and sustainability. The distinguished presence of Mr. Sa'ad al-Qaddumi, President of WCC-International, provided invaluable insights, further emphasizing the importance of collaboration between the fashion and crafts sectors in driving positive change.


In commemoration of the World Crafts Council's 60-year theme, the IFA Conclave aimed to chart a strategic vision for the craft sector in India and beyond. The event served as a platform for stakeholders to exchange innovative ideas, share best practices, and propose actionable solutions for integrating crafts into mainstream fashion while ensuring environmental responsibility and socio-economic empowerment.


The participation of World Crafts Council AISBL (WCC-International) President, Mr. Sa'ad al-Qaddumi, and WCC-International representatives in the 'Crafts and Sustainability' panel underscores the growing recognition of the vital role played by crafts in shaping sustainable fashion practices globally. Events like the IFA Conclave contribute to advancing shared goals of promoting crafts, sustainability, and cultural heritage preservation through collaboration and knowledge exchange among industry stakeholders.


Subsequently, during the award ceremony, the 'Launch of 60-years of World Crafts' book was unveiled by eminent members of WCC-International, marking the commencement of the 60-year celebration of World Crafts Council ASIBL. The event was graced by the presence of the Honourable Governor of Maharashtra, Shri Ramesh Bais, and esteemed members of the film and celebrity fraternity, including Mr. Karan Johar, Ms. Diya Mirza, Mr. Siddhartha Malhotra, Ms. Disha Patani, Ms. Sara Ali Khan, Mr Manish Malhotra among others.
