As custodians of time-honored skills, the artisans of Timidwa are determined to share their story with a global audience, ensuring their cultural legacy thrives in a rapidly evolving world.
The Documentary: The Art of Friendship
Produced in collaboration with R.Badwah & Murray Films and Friends of Timidwa, The Art of Friendship is the first documentary of its kind to capture the artistry and stories behind the Tuareg craftsmanship. This visually stunning film brings to light not only the intricate process involved in creating Tuareg crafts but also the resilience and dedication that fuel each piece. Through the lens of this documentary, viewers are invited to witness the cultural transmission of ancient skills, highlighting the artisans' unwavering commitment to preserving their heritage.
The film's premiere took place in Bamako, Mali, followed by screenings in Dire Dawa, Ethiopia, and a U.S. premiere at the Mehari Sequar Gallery in Washington, D.C. It was also showcased at The University of Maryland, reaching diverse audiences around the world. The documentary serves as a powerful tool to amplify the awareness of the Tuareg community’s plight and their mission to safeguard their traditions.
